Filming girls youth group

Mon 3rd Feb – (Mary and Bea)

We spent the morning editing, and then went down to Hamara at about 5 to film the girls 13-19years youth group. There was not the usual amount of girls there, because of half term, and the previous weeks sessions being cancelled. 4 girls attended but this was probably good for us, as it allowed us to focus our filming and get a lot of good shots as we could move around the room easily, and there was not as much background noise during the interviews.

The group is an after school group to provide the young people with extra support and interesting projects outside of school. Previously they have done drama pieces, and currently they were working towards organising their own fashion show for which they would design the clothes for inspired by a mixture of modern british and traditional indian clothing. When we went to film they were creating mood boards and researching styles online in the IT room. There wasn’t that much ‘making’ to film, but we got shots of them chatting and enjoying themselves, as well as them generally using the IT resource (which we hadn’t already filmed so this was beneficial).

We got the girls to do interviews with us, in pairs because they were more comfortable like this. They gave so many good answers talking about how the sessions have helped them make friends, gain confidence, develop their CV, help them get into college, and have fun rather than just going home after school. They also went into detail about their project and the drama performance, but although this was great we probably won’t have time in the video to feature it.
